Psalm 46

I find this passage to be so calming in times of being overwhelmed, upset, or way too busy. Words like "an ever-present help in trouble", Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts" and of course the main one "Be still, and know that I am God". These words are encouraging.

I wonder what was going on in the world at the time David wrote this psalm. It sounds as if it was chaotic much like our lives seem at times. But then David says be still. That is hard but when I do it many things change for me. My heart beats slower, my mind becomes clearer, and sometimes I can hear GOd talking to me. Those are great times and I know I don't do them enough. But just knowing God waits patiently is exciting to me.

So what keeps you from taking the time?

Now onto Psalm 139. God knows us intimately and he knows what we are going to say before we say it. That makes me think twice about speaking. Do my words honor Him or dishonor Him. What about my actions? All great things to think about. What do you think?

  1. I agree with what you said about the chaos in the world and how david still found the time to be still and listen. Our relationship with God is so often a one way conversation even though He knows so much more than us. We should listen to Him as much as we can and let that be each days priority.
Psalm 139 also reminds me of what we talked about at YWC about living and breathing every breath for Gods glory.

  2. I completely agree with Logan. My relationship is most of the time a one way conversation with God, but this week i have taken the time to listen and I have gotten so much more out of it. Psalm 139 showed me that God is like a best friend but more. I need to share everything with him. When I took the time to just share everything that was going on in my life with him, it really helped me.
